Girls Get the Anime Look with Extra-Wide Contact Lenses

Anyone who's seen Japanese comics, cartoon videos or anime art is instantly struck by the common look of the girls - big eyes that, by making the rest of the face look small, add the cuteness and sex appeal prized by many Japanese men. Since no amount of cosmetic surgery will make actual human eyes larger, some girls are trying another way to up their cute quotient: extra-wide contact lenses! These are no ordinary contacts - they're not only tinted, but tinted prominently in the extra-wide outer ring. The result is the appearance of a bigger, wider iris.
To quote the sales copy, "Wanna get big, watery shiny eyes without any surgery? CRAVE AND ENVY NO MORE!"The extra-wide
contact lenses are made by a variety of companies including Geo and Dueba, and cost in the $30-$50 per pair range. It seems they're not just cosmetic - send in your prescription and the lenses will be made to order.

Woman calls radio show to confess murder

Phoenix police on Thursday formally presented the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office with the investigation into the death seven years ago of an Ahwatukee Foothills man whose girlfriend, they believe, called a national talk radio show and bragged that she got away with murder.

Phoenix police Sgt. Joel Tranter also officially named the girlfriend, Megan Suzanne Vice of El Mirage, as the suspect in the case. He said while police won’t arrest the 30-year-old Vice, they are seeking charges of first-degree murder and obstructing a criminal investigation for filing a false police report.

Two years ago, a woman claiming to be the dead man’s girlfriend said on a national radio talk show that she killed him but had convinced police it was a suicide.

Detectives continued to work on the case that drew attention on Nov. 3, 2006, when nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Tom Leykis took a call on his live show from a woman claiming she got away with murder. Police have linked the call to the March 2001 death of Tortsen Rockwood.

In May, Phoenix police filed a “reasonable cause statement” showing that they believe Vice shot and killed Rockwood, her live-in boyfriend, in March 2001. Their 2-year-old son reportedly was in another room. The court record shows that Vice told police the couple argued about Rockwood hitting the boy and that she thought Rockwood shot himself.

Vice could not be reached for comment.

Records show that last May 29, police had Vice read a transcript over the telephone of what the caller said on Leykis’ show. The idea was to compare her voice with that of the woman who called “The Tom Leykis Show” in 2006.

During the call, the woman said she was a nurse at the same hospital where she and her ex-boyfriend worked, and that they had a child when she was 19. She told Leykis that she tried to talk to her ex-boyfriend about why he wasn’t paying child support and was told he quit his job so he wouldn’t have to.

The woman said on the radio program that her former boyfriend wouldn’t listen to her, so she shot him. She said she had been “a blubbering crying woman” when talking with police, that she was a nurse and knew where to aim, and claimed to have used his 9 mm gun to shoot him in the heart.

Before going on radio, the caller spoke with an associate producer and asked if there was a way the call could be traced or if they could find out who she was. The associate producer told her he hoped she was not going to threaten the president. She said no and told him her story. She told him she receives survivor benefits.

Court records indicate the Leykis show sent a list of 1,440 call-in numbers to Phoenix police.

An MP3 file posted on the show’s Web site, www.blowmeuptom.com, has the woman telling Leykis that she had a one-night stand that produced a child. The father would not pay child support, she said. Leykis said she identified herself only by her middle name of “Sue” or “Susan.”

“I went over and tried to talk to him just about doing some under-the-table money,” the woman said on the air. “He wouldn’t listen, so I shot him.”

“You shot him?” Leykis said.

“Oh yes, I did.”

“You shot him dead?”

“I did.”

The woman told Leykis that she wasn’t arrested because she had lied to police. Leykis told her he would use her phone number to turn her in.

“They’ve got your confession on tape,” Leykis said. “You just confessed.”

The woman replied: “But people call up and make up stories all the time, Tom.”

Seconds later, the line went dead.

Tranter said the woman could face charges of first-degree murder and obstructing a criminal investigation, the latter for filing a false police report. He said that the woman won’t be arrested because of circumstantial evidence and admissions the woman made to police.

“This is an extremely unusual case,” Tranter said. “It’s not unusual, however, not to book someone but seek charges. We’ve determined that this woman is not a flight risk.”

Gary Zabransky, executive producer of the Leykis show, said last week that he and Leykis have cooperated with Phoenix police. Zabransky added that police asked that they not discuss the case on the air.

“I’ve been here 11 years and, by far, this is the most talked-about call we’ve ever had,” Zabransky said. “Callers still want to know about it. This is one that’s not going away. We don’t want it to go away. Ultimately, we want to see an arrest and prosecution. And, we want to talk about it.”

Dark Night casting info

MTV UK reported yesterday that Johnny Depp could be playing The Riddler in the next Batman movie, Angelina Jolie is rumored to play Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman might play The Penguin.

Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker has set the bar high for Gotham City villains, but reports in the US say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

"Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?" a source said.

They could be joining Angelina Jolie - the actress is reported to be after the role of Catwoman.

The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in 1995 film Batman Forever and Frank Gorshin in the Sixties television series. As for The Penguin, he was portrayed on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and in 1992 film Batman returns by Danny DeVito.

Plans for the sequel are yet to be announced but it is likely to star Christian Bale reprising his role as The Caped Crusader.

The Dark Knight has smashed box office records in the US, taking $314 million in just 10 days.

There is even talk of it challenging Titanic to become the biggest movie of all time. Titanic took $600 million in the US. The Dark Knight certainly looks set to reach second place in the all-time chart and beat Star Wars

Must be a Cowboy if.....

Jeff Pearlman has a new book coming out in September called Boys Will Be Boys, which chronicles the Cowboys during the Aikman-Smith-Irvin glory years. Tucked inside the book is a chapter called “The Last Naked Warrior,” which is a nickname defensive end Charles Haley used for himself. Haley, if you recall, was a goddamn beast of a pass rusher, and also a legendary asshole. But what you may not know about Haley is that he was:
A) Legitimately insane
B) Hung like Milton Berle
C) Liked jacking off in front of teammates and coaches
And not playful jerking off. We’re talking the real, hardcore, I’m-home-and-my-wife-is-at-the-movies jerking off. I’ll let Pearlman fill you in:
Haley would stroll up to an unsuspecting (49er) teammate, whip out his phallus, and repeatedly stroke it in his face. Players initially laughed it off…
Hey look, it’s Charles’ huge erection! And he’s pleasuring himself! Man, that is funny.
But Haley refused to stop. He would jerk off in the locker room, in the trainer’s room. He’d wrap his hand around his penis, turn toward a Joe Montana or John Taylor, and bellow, ‘You know you wanna suck this!’
Well, it was San Francisco. I, for one, am glad to see that Haley liked to go native. I’m assuming Montana replied, “Really? I know I wanna suck that? Well, it hadn’t occurred to me before. But now that you’re masturbating right in front of me in a completely unprofessional manner, I can see your point.”
Pearlman also gets this quote from Michael Silver:
”Charles used to beat off in meetings while talking graphically about other players’ wives. It got to the point of ejaculation.”
Well, if you don’t reach the point of ejaculation, there IS no point. Am I right? Think about this quote for just a moment. You go to work. You go sit in a meeting. Then Bob from Accounting decides to take out his Frankencock and starts talking about banging your wife, and then orgasms right in front of you.

$10,000 Polo Shirt Repels Automatic Weapon Fire

Fashion designer Miguel Caballero understands that if you lead the high life in crime-ridden Colombia, you should be able to look good while being sprayed by automatic gunfire.

In fact, Caballero has designed a whole line of bulletproof clothing for men and women, including guayaberas, polo shirts, jackets and even an updated version of the classic bulletproof vest. His leather jacket weighs only a few pounds, and nobody would suspect that you had full protection.

In addition to size runs, customers can seek a specific level of protection -- low will only withstand 9MM slugs and high will take on gunfire from Uzis and other automatics.

A few items sell for as low as $2,000, but you'll have to shell out $10 Gs for the polo shirt that withstands automatic weapon fire.

We just hope the bad guys don't start using flamethrowers.

Suge accused of silencing witness in Big slaying

Rap mogul sent threats to prison, inmate says
Former singer says warnings from Marion 'Suge' Knight prompted him to recant testimony in Biggie Smalls' slaying.

A state prison inmate who once implicated a Los Angeles police officer in the slaying of rap star Biggie Smalls testified Thursday that he recanted the allegation because of threats he received from a rival rap producer that were passed to him by a former Los Angeles Times reporter.

Waymond "Suave" Anderson, a former R&B singer, said reporter Chuck Philips passed him several written messages wrapped in plastic at Corcoran State Prison on behalf of rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight. He said the threats led him to give false testimony at a deposition last year in a civil lawsuit brought by the family of the slain rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace.

Anderson is a convicted murderer whose credibility has been questioned by prosecutors. The 43-year-old inmate made the claim over the last two days in a hearing examining evidence that he contends shows he is innocent of a 1993 murder. He is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Philips, in a telephone interview, denied Anderson's allegation.

"That never happened," said Philips, who has written several stories about Anderson's murder conviction suggesting that Anderson may be innocent. "I'm flabbergasted by this whole thing. This is the ultimate betrayal."

Knight, the founder of Death Row Records, could not be reached for comment.

Anderson and his attorney said the FBI has been investigating the singer's allegations. An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment.

In addition to his testimony about Philips and Knight, Anderson accused police officers, a prosecutor and two of his prior defense attorneys of corruption.

Anderson, who had a nationwide hit in the 1980s with an updated version of the Motown standard "My Girl," was convicted in 1997 of torching a drug users' hangout near USC and setting a man aflame to avenge an unpaid drug debt.

The events leading up to Anderson's murder trial and his attempts to win freedom have all the hallmarks of a legal soap opera.

Before his trial, a judge found him to be mentally incompetent and sent him to Patton State Hospital, a mental facility near San Bernardino. Anderson escaped, allegedly with the help of a hospital employee, but was captured at his sister's house and brought to trial, court records show.

After his conviction, Anderson won a new hearing in 2002 to determine whether his trial attorney was ineffective and to examine evidence that he said showed he was in Mississippi the day the murder took place. Following the hearing, a judge denied his petition for release, finding that Anderson and his supporters had tried to fabricate evidence and "perpetrate an elaborate fraud upon the court."

From behind bars, Anderson became involved in the Wallace family lawsuit, claiming to have information about the slaying. Attorneys for the slain rapper's family contend that a rogue LAPD officer orchestrated the fatal 1997 shooting of Wallace, also known as Notorious B.I.G.

Anderson testified Thursday that he spoke to LAPD homicide detectives about the killing.

He implicated former LAPD Officer David Mack in the slaying.

But last summer, Anderson recanted, telling lawyers representing Wallace's relatives that he had lied and did not know Mack.

At one time, LAPD detectives had investigated Mack in connection with Wallace's slaying.

A theory of one detective was that Mack orchestrated the killing on behalf of Knight, who was feuding with another rap label on the East Coast. Knight and Mack have both denied the allegations and Wallace's murder remains unsolved.

In his own murder case, Anderson and his supporters continued gathering evidence in his bid to prove that he was in Mississippi during the killing. He was granted a new hearing, which began last month in Judge William C. Ryan's downtown courtroom.

In recent weeks, Philips said, he has kept in regular contact with Anderson's family, though he has not been covering the hearing for the newspaper. Over the weekend, Philips said, Anderson's wife set up a conference call with Anderson from jail.

Anderson, he said, asked for his help. Philips said he told him he could do nothing more.

"He just said, 'I'm hung out here all by myself.' I said, 'I don't know what I can do. There's nothing I can do,' " Philips said.

Philips, who left The Times on Friday, has won many awards for his reporting, including a Pulitzer Prize in 1999. But some of his work has also been criticized. Earlier this year, the newspaper retracted one of his stories after it was revealed to have been based partly on fabricated documents.

Outside of court, Anderson's attorney David L. Bernstein said FBI agents had informed him in January that they were investigating the allegations and provided him with copies of the alleged notes. He said they included veiled threats that suggested someone was keeping watch on Anderson's family.
